About:

The Eternity String Quartet player page is here.

The Eternity String Quartet Project is a an experiment to create and present new music continuously. A new variation of the string quartet is produced every two hours and the .mp3 audio file is posted on-line along with .pdf scores. After two hours, a new variation is created and the previous version is no longer accessible. The source material is changed every week or so, and a new piece with a new set of variations is initiated.

The intent is to produce a playable, unique piece that does not require extensive practice or rehearsal time.  An Eternity String Quartet score can be used to fill in a concert program or as a stand-alone piece for students focusing on ensemble playing.

The music is process-based minimalism. The sequence of independent cells in the four string parts is randomly changed for each new variation by server software. In theory, over 6.5 X 10^13 unique variations are possible so that a given piece can never be heard in its entirety. The results are posted on-line by an Apache server running on Ubuntu Linux.

There is no charge for the .mp3 file or the score – simply download if you like them.

All music and downloads are under Creative Commons Copyright CC-BY, Attribution Only. This means you can download, use, modify, perform the work – or charge for the performance – with no other requirement than attribution of the source.
